Smartphone & tablet use are growing

If you’ve never heard the term “responsive design,” it’s time to change that.

Your website needs to work as well on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets as it does on a laptop or desktop. Responsive design is what makes that happen.

Most website platforms are set up to execute responsive design (Our Hero, Squarespace certainly is), but making sure everything translates into a great user experience on phones and tablets is the realm of your website designer.

Some heroes wear blue light glasses

There’s only one way to ensure great user experience on a mobile device, and that’s staring at screens for hours performing quality assurance checks on every element of every page of your website.

And it helps to start with what my old boss called “thumb-stopping” design. Knowledge of the best practices for mobile user experience, coffee, and snacks also help.

Is my audience on mobile?

They are. As of 2023, nearly 70% of the world population had a smartphone. Pew Research says that even in the 65+ demographic in the U.S., 76% own a smartphone. Under the age of 65, it’s 90%. And the number of mobile computer users increases 2.5% annually. Making sure the mobile version of your site is as user-friendly as the laptop/desktop version is really important.

If you’re overwhelmed by all of this, don’t be. You have us. And we have blue light glasses.
